  4. This application is shareware - you may evaluate it for 30 days. If you
  5. continue to use it beyond this time then you must register!
  6.  
  7. Link is a quiz type game for two or three players. The aim of the game is
  8. to make a link from top to bottom (player 1) or left to right (team 2). If
  9. you take a look at the application you will quickly pick it up. Note that
  10. the mouse is not used by Link, and so is turned off during play.
  11.  
  12. Instructions
  13. ------------
  14. a) If you know the answer to the displayed question then the following keys
  15. should be used:
  16.  
  17. White player: left ALT key     Blue team: right ALT key and keypad 0
  18.  
  19. b) Normally a game consits of five 'rounds', a round being completed when a 
  20. link is made. If you wish to abort a game then press the Esc key when the
  21. question is being displayed. Pressing the Esc key at any other time will
  22. have no effect.

  24. Changing the questions
  25. ----------------------
  26. MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A BACKUP FIRST!

  28. Within the !Link directory is another directory called Files. Open this
  29. directory to view the GENERAL icon, which can be imported in Edit. Study
  30. this file to see how to add/edit - remember that if you change the number
  31. of questions say in the G's then change the number at the start of the G
  32. section. If you don't then the machine may 'hang' when you run the quiz. If
  33. you do modify the file it must NOT exceed 50K.

  35. As you will find out it takes quite a while to build up an extensive
  36. databank of questions. I am in the process of developing new ones, drop me
  37. a line if you want to know what's available or have an area you would like
  38. covered.

  40. Registration
  41. ------------
  42. The registration fee for Link is 5.99 - this will keep you informed of
  43. upgrades as they become available as well as removing the 'unregistered'
  44. windows that pop up. To register make a cheque to M. Smith for 5.99 and
  45. print clearly your address as well as who you want the program to be
  46. registered to. Also write the name of the application on your note (ie
  47. Link - Geography).

  77. Shown below is a brief description (E & O.E) of applications by the same
  78. author. Virtually all are of an educational nature, running under the WIMP.
  79. Most work on RISC OS 2, all work on RISC OS 3. I have not tried them on a
  80. RISC PC, but they ought to be ok!
  81.  
  82. Geography:
  83. * Where & Grid - Designed for Key Stage 3, Where & Grid are two
  84.   complementary applications. They test locations of countries (Europe &
  85.   Africa), towns, counties (UK only) rivers, montains, bearings, four and
  86.   six figure grid references. Currently the set covers the UK, Europe
  87.   & Africa.
  88. * OS_Symbols - Designed for Key Stage 3, OS_Symbols tests knowledge of a
  89.   range of OS Map symbols. A particular symbol is displayed and the correct
  90.   description must be found - time limits can be set.
  91. * Forecast - Produce your own weather maps just like on TV with symbols and
  92.   isobars. Variety of maps supplied; wind chill can be determined.
  93. * Predict - Predict the weather for the next 24 hours by supplying data
  94.   such are pressure and wind direction.
  95. * Link - A 'blockbuster' type quiz game, where all the words are connected
  96.   with Key Satge 3 geography.
  97.  
  98. Science:
  99. * Circuit symbols - Tests knowledge of circuit and electronic symbols
  100.   against the clock.
  101. * Assist: Science AT4 - Produce a wide range of worksheets for topics on 
  102.   AT4. Each topic has a wide range categories including word searches,
  103.   crosswords, True or False, Anagrams and Missing words. Worksheets are
  104.   created from a databank, so they are different each time they are printed.
  105. * Assist: Equations - Produce four types of worksheets based on chemical
  106.   equations. Categories are Balancing equations, Missing product, Missing
  107.   reactant and Right or Wrong. Because a databank is used, worksheets are
  108.   different each time they are printed.
  109. * Assist: Periodic Table - Print a customised Periodic Table. Displayed data
  110.   can include mass number, density, boiling point, melting point,
  111.   radioactive isotopes, atomic radius, atomic volume, covalent radius,
  112.   ionisation energy, & electronegativity. Graphs and periodic trends can
  113.   also be produced.
  114. * Periodic Table - Click on a particular element to display relevant data. 
  115. * ArcMedia: Space - A simple hypermedia system on the Solar System. Designed
  116.   to be 1Meg RISC OS 2 friendly. Variety of NASA images.
  117. * Multiple Choice Chemistry - Several hundred multiple questions (some with
  118.   pictures) covering GCSE Chemistry. Time limits can be set.
  119. * Multiple Choice Physics - Several hundred multiple questions (some with
  120.   pictures) covering GCSE Physics. Time limits can be set.

  122. Word Puzzles:
  123. * Word Search - Application for creating word searches. Control over grid
  124.   size, displayed fonts, grid shape & borders is provided.
  125. * Do Search - Compliments the Word Search application. Data files from Word
  126.   Search can be dragged into Do Search, allowing the word search to be done
  127.   on screen
  128. * X-Word - Creates and prints crosswords from words and clues provided by
  129.   the user. Control over grid size, displayed fonts & borders is provided.
  130. * Do-Word - Compliments the X-Word application. Data files from X-Word can
  131.   be dragged into Do Word, allowing the crossword to be done on screen.
  132. * Anagram - Reconstruct the jumbled up word by solid dragging of the
  133.   letters. Hint feature is also provided.
  134. * Guess - Guess the word chosen by the computer. Hint feature provided.
  135. * Bottle - Hangman type game, but with bottles. Hints also provided.
  136. * Cloze - Removes words (user can determine how many) from a passage of
  137.   text. User must then reconstruct the entire text by entering words into
  138.   gaps in the text. Add your own passages of text easily. Summary can be
  139.   printed.

  141. Picture Puzzles:
  142. * Blocksaw - Jigsaw type application, using blocks for the pieces. Accepts
  143.   sprite and draw files. Size of the grid can be varied to cover a wide
  144.   range of abilities.
  145. * Tile - Picture is broken into a series of tiles, and then the tiles mixed
  146.   up. The picture must be recreated by swapping tiles. Uses sprite or draw
  147.   files; allows the number of tiles to be varied and has three difficulty
  148.   levels.
  149. * Slide - Sliding block puzzle. Uses sprite or draw files; allows the number
  150.   of tiles to be varied and has three difficulty levels.
  151. * Rows n Cols - Recreate a picture (either sprite or draw) by sliding rows
  152.   or columns into their correct positions.
  153.  
  154. Miscellaneous:
  155. * Link - A 'blockbuster' type quiz game for up to three players. Database
  156.   can be easily modified to include your own words.
  157. * Multiple Choice (General) - Multiple choice quiz, some with pictures. Many
  158.   general knowledge topics covered. Editor also available so you can create
  159.   your own tests.
  160. * Multiple Choice Maths - Several hundred multiple questions (some with
  161.   pictures) covering GCSE Maths. Time limits can be set.
  162. * ArcMedia (Cats) - A simple hypermedia system on the Cat Family. Designed
  163.   to be 1Meg RISC OS 2 friendly. 
  164. * Word Tester - Tests knowledge of the correct word for numbers from one to
  165.   one hundred in various languages. Played against the clock.
  166. * Facemaker - Use your computer to design a face, then either print or
  167.   export as a sprite file.
  168. * Desktop Turtle - Create on screen graphics with a 'Turtle' within a
  169.   desktop window. Wide range of commands supported including numeric
  170.   variables as well as sprites and sounds. Other features include variable
  171.   line thickness, auto symmetry and backdrops.
  172. * Birthday & Today. Produce an A4 sized poster on events taking place in
  173.   history either on your Birthday or any particular day. Information
  174.   displayed includes Famous Birthdays on the same day, events, films, songs
  175.   and sporting events. Variety of borders/watermarks provided.
  176. * School CV & CV+. School leavers (CV) or sixth form students (CV+) can
  177.   quickly create a CV by entering data. Layouts can be chosen from a
  178.   predefined set, and fonts changed. DTP style output without having to use
  179.   a DTP application.
